This is a cluster of eight tiny islands and is surrounded by Kallada River, Ashtamudi Lake and Sasthamkotta Lake. The island is named after colonel Munroe who was the British Resident of erstwhile state of Travancore. It is blessed with a number of criss cross canals and zigzag water channels. A backwater cruise along the water ways will fetch the unblemished beauty of village sides full of coconut lagoons. A walk through the village can offer glimpses into the rustic life. Bird watching, toddy tapping (the local brew), fish/prawn farming etc can also be part of the activity. Coir making is a home industry in the area in which hundreds of people work for a daily living. In addition to this, one can also see oil extraction process by crushing ‘copra’ or the dried kernel of coconut.

Remote areas like the Munroe Island are bewitching in beauty and offer the direct picture of country life.
